So You Want A Website?
Nickey Mott 12/19/2009
Getting a website has never been easier! Well with all this new technology, software engineers are making it possible for the
average Joe to do what could only be done by professionals years ago. And that's enough to get anybody excited. So what do
you want to do? Would you like to build your own website? It's not as difficult as it might seem, unless you are completely
computer illiterate. In that case, I'd love to assist you!

I sort of taught myself to do websites so what you see is what you get. Some of the websites I've done include the following:
www.hgbchurch.net
www.victory-lifecenter.org
www.morningsidetap.com
www.priorityhouse.com
And of course I've also designed my own website. So what is it that I can do for you. Well, for one, I love to design websites.
This is separate from actually getting your website up and running. This includes creating the overall look and feel of the
website. Usually when I speak with the client, I get their vision and make it reality!

But now, if you're one of those who like to figure things out for yourself and make things happen, I have a few
recommendations. The first recommendation is that you utilize a WYSIWYG (pronounced wizzy-wig) editor. That simply
means,
What You See Is What You Get! It's sort of like using Microsoft Publisher. You can move things around visually without
having to know HTML. Now there really is no substitute for HTML right now simply because knowing it makes it possible for
you as a web designer to do things that you otherwise couldn't do utilizing a WYSIWYG editor.

Now there are many websites that I recommend if you want to delve into this thing on your own. But first, you've got to know
everything you're going to need to get the website that you want for the least amount of money.

Okay first off, you've got to get a domain name. Kind of like your physical address. If you don't have a physical address, you'd
be considered homeless, and the same applies for your web pages. They need a home! For example, my web address is
www.janeofmanytrades.com. This is where my web pages that I've created live along with the graphics and all.

The next thing you'll need is web hosting. I'd like to relate this to having a mortgage. I have an address, but I can't simply have
an address without paying to live there. So while I have an address, I also have someone hosting a loan for me whom I must
pay to live in it. Usually when someone hosts your domain there is a monthly fee. This fee can range from $4.95 per month to
$100 + per month depending on what you request.
After that you need to consider who you'd like to handle all this for you. You see most companies assist you with the obtaining
of your domain name and hosting as well as setting up your email address and a ton of other things that you may find useful
for your website.

So what's my recommendation? Well I always shout out that
Yahoo is by far one of the best services that I know of, only
because I have found it to be very user friendly. They provide you with a WYSIWYG editor with several templates that you can
use without having any knowledge of web design.

All you have to do is add pertinent information about your website. If you're simply looking to build a simple website or a
commercial website, Yahoo has plans to fit what you want. After that, I recommend
GoDaddy if you're a little more computer
savvy. Only because I've not found their site to be as user friendly as Yahoo. And no, I don't work for Yahoo :)Lastly, I just
starting using another service with dotster.com and so far I'm pretty impressed. They have software applications such as
blogs that you can download right onto your website.

So with all that said, don't get me wrong, I'd love to do your website for you, but if you want to take on the task and delve in, be
my guest. You might save money doing it yourself, and I would have to tell you, it's sometimes a lot easier to have someone
do it for you rather than doing it yourself, especially if you want to get a fully functional website if you're not particularly
experienced. Now, if you would like to give it shot and build your own site, I'd start with yahoo.  But if your not that bold and
you'd like to hire me...I'd love to work for you. Let's set up a consultation so I can get a feel for what you're looking for and put
your website to work for you! You can either call me now at 704.252.1108, email me at:
